Reporting Infectious Diseases – Kings County Department of Public Health

 

Timely and accurate reporting of communicable diseases is essential to protect the health of Kings County residents. Under California Code of Regulations Title 17, healthcare providers, laboratories, schools, and other mandated reporters are required to report certain conditions to the local health department.

What’s New (Effective June 2025)

- New reportable conditions: Melioidosis, MIS-C, Silicosis, Cronobacter sakazakii in infants
- Updated disease names and reporting timeframes
- Providers must now include hospitalization status (if known)
- New lab reporting requirements and isolate submissions
- Clarified responsibilities for school-based reporting

For Healthcare Providers

Healthcare providers must report all suspected or confirmed cases of designated diseases to the Kings County Department of Public Health within the required timeframe

Laboratories are required to report results and submit certain specimens for specific diseases as outlined in Title 17, Section 2505.
