Food Safety Program
The Food Safety Program helps prevent foodborne illnesses and assures all retail food facilities are clean, safe, and sanitary. This involves regular inspections of food and beverage establishments including restaurants, bars, food vending vehicles, school cafeterias, food vending machines, bakeries, produce stands, and retail food markets. With over 500 permitted food facilities in Kings County, this program helps assure the health and well-being of all people.
EHS staff investigates food service operation complaints and reported cases of foodborne illness. Classes in proper food handling and sanitation techniques are available on a voluntary basis for all food establishments. In addition, assistance is given to community organizations with the planning and implementation of special events involving food booths.
